PD needs a comprehensive structural plan, says Anwar

PORT DICKSON: All projects in Port Dickson pending approval from the authorities have been put on hold until a structural plan to ensure the development in the district is more organised is complete.Port Dickson MP Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the plan was important to ensure a complete infrastructure in a bid to promote the district as a tourist destination.

“Next week I will have a meeting with the state government and relevant quarters to discuss the structural plan.

“For now, I have instructed the local authorities to postpone approvals for projects until the structural plan is complete,” he told reporters after officiating the Port Dickson beach clean up programme at Pantai Cahaya Negeri, here, today.

At the same event, Anwar also launched SWM Environment Sdn Bhd’s (SWM Environment) new sweeper machine called the “Robot Street Sweeper”.

Joining the beach clean-up event are local folks and celebrities, among them, Jasmin Hamid, Shahanaz Ahmad, Putri Aishah and Atikah Suhaimi.

Commenting further, Anwar said he had been receiving reports of flooding almost weekly in several areas in Port Dickson.

That is why, he said the structural plan was deemed important as there were several big projects in the planning stage including the construction of two five-star hotels and business complex.

“When I asked the local authorities, they told me the rivers must be deepened and the drainage system upgraded. The beaches must always be in a clean state in order to serve as tourist attractions,” he said.

“That is why a comprehensive structural plan is important and those involved must ensure proper infrastructure is available before these projects are completed,” he added.

Anwar informed that he had discussed with Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng on allocation to increase the number of facilities in the area.

“He (Lim) said they could not pay specific attention to this area but can give added facilities to ensure the infrastructure here is organised,” Anwar said.
